Questions

Questions, answered

What people ask before they write.

Do you diagnose ADHD?

No. Lumen offers therapy, not testing or evaluation. If you want an evaluation, Andre can give you names of clinicians who do them.

Do you take my insurance?

Lumen is out of network with insurance plans, and does not take Medicare or Medicaid. You pay for each session yourself, and the fees page explains the rest.

What is a superbill, and can I use it?

A superbill, which Andre can email you each month, is an itemized receipt for your sessions. A plan may or may not reimburse part of out-of-network care when you send it one. It lists a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Your plan decides what it pays, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.

What is a good faith estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of your costs before care starts. Lumen sends it before the first session. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

How much does it cost, and how do fees work?

The fee depends on the length of the session, and sessions are 50 minutes. Your fee is given in writing before you start, so you never learn it by surprise. Most HSA and FSA cards work like any other card. The fees page has the details.

What happens in the first session?

Andre explains how he works, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy. Then you follow the agenda together, and at the end you decide whether to continue.

How often, and for how long?

Sessions are 50 minutes. Andre sets the pace with you, and there is no promised number of sessions.

Are you licensed where I live?

Andre is licensed in Utah. You need to be in Utah during a session, in the office or by video. If you are elsewhere, we cannot see you, and we will help you find someone licensed where you live.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time, or call 911 in an emergency. Our messages are not monitored around the clock, so please do not wait for us to answer.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you say in sessions is private. Andre may have to share it if you are in danger, if someone else is, or if the law requires it. He explains the limits in writing before you start.

Do you see teenagers?

No. Lumen sees adults, 18 and over. If you are a parent looking for help for a teen, write to us and we will give you names of clinicians who see them.

What is your cancellation policy?

To move or cancel an appointment, please tell us 24 hours ahead; a text is enough.
